Rudd government to impose CO2 tax on road cyclists

Today Kevin Rudd announced a CO2 tax is to be imposed on cyclists.
Mr Rudd is quoted as saying:
"... popular cycling websites such as hillclimbr.com have alerted us to how much CO2 a road cyclist can produce. A good cyclist can produce upto 1500 litres of CO2 an hour. I think we all agree in this day and age this is not acceptable...."
Mr Rudd continued...
"We intend to impose a 20% CO2 tax on all new bike sales..."
At hillclimbr.com we think this is absolutely ridiculous and plan to start a petition against this. Discuss this on our forum

If you don't want to receive these emails please reply back and I will remove you from our list.

Peak Winter Racing Series - Stage 16 Results

Vancouver Riders – we will be running the Stage 16 course again on Saturday morning at 10am if you missed it last week and are interested in racing it! Stage 17 runs at 1:45 as usual.

Clash of the Titans – Stage 16

Lining up for Stage 16, was the King and all the contenders in what was to become the most fought out stage of this year's series. Taking the start in the same heat was Mike Nash and most of the other stage winners from this year. Marc Boudreau, Casey Roth, Derrick St. John and Ron Amos all smelt blood and were determined to go for the kill. Over the ensuing 30km course, the lead traded hands between Boudreau, St. John and Nash while the rest of the heat stayed close. Big numbers and big legs saw Nash and St. John pull away in the last 8km, never separated by more than 200m. Going into the final kilometer, Nash had St. John in his sights and powered back 150m. St. John's lead dwindled to 10m before Nash cracked and shut it down handing the win to St. John (49:25.0 vs. 49:38.2). Behind the two leaders, Marc Bourdeau took his second podium of the year with a third place and a time of 50:03.1.

In the woman's field, Tenille Hoogland proved to be a model of consistency by taking yet another Stage win, stopping the clock at 55:29.2. Behind her, Carol Deavy rode to a time of 58:45.3 to finish in second place. Alison Setton of Vancouver made another podium appearance by placing third (63:05.3).

Stage 16 also was part of the Maxxis Sprint Competition that places riders by their maximum watts/kg. The sprint saw many riders post some impressive power to weight numbers. To see who came out on top in the men's and women's categories, and to see more detailed results of all the rider's, visit

Stage 17 returns this weekend with a course described as having flats with plateaus so expect some sharp climbs and some challenging flat sections that will force riders to dig deep if they want to have a good ride. With 2 Stages left in this year's series, all eyes will be focused on Nash to see if he rallies back from his last few defeats. There's blood in the water, will the other sharks come out to play?

New Cycling BC Road Site

Cycling BC has a new web site just for us Road (and eventually Track and Cross) types...

This site will have the complete Road schedule along with results as they are received after each event.

The previously announced BAR results will also be available here once they have that sorted out.

Finally, they hope to make changes to the site available via RSS, so that you can get notified when results or changes to schedules are posted.

Kudo's to the current Road VP, Alastair Howard for making this happen.

Spring Series is here at last, two weeks later this year in the (possibly vain) hope that starting two weeks later would get us better weather.

This week is the ever popular River Road Course..

Here is a Bikely Course map.
