Fwd: Peak Centre Winter Racing Series - Stage 12 Results

RWR/ Peak Winter Racing Series - Stage 12 Results

Stage 12 presented riders with one of the hardest stages to date in the Ride with Rendall/ Peak Winter Series. Not only was stage 12 riddled with climbs from the get go, it's long course status meant that pacing played a key role in a riders standing at the end of the day. Riders who went out too hard were punished with a series of tough climbs at the beginning of the stage sapping power for the later parts. Almost from the gun, Mike Nash pushed his way close to the front and held his closest rival, Casey Roth, in sight before pulling away over the second half of the 32km stage. Mike's pace took its toll as more than one contender cracked in his wake. The relentless course even got to the King himself as Nash later admitted he was forced to slow in the last 4km to prevent cramping. Mike finished with a time of 55:12.10. Casey Roth took second with a time of 58:09.2 with Ron Amos scoring third after posting a time of 58:31.4.

The women's race played out in a similar fashion with Tenille Hoogland once again putting in a solid ride to take the win. Sara Domina came in with a time of 1:06:33.8 to take second on the stage. Wendy Blagdon finished on the podium again thanks to a time of 1:09:17.5.

In addition to the overall bragging rights afforded to the stage winners, Stage 12 left the opportunity to shine with a KOM and a Sprint competition all rolled into the stage . While the KOM results where basically a carbon copy if the overall results thanks to the hilly profile ( Nash with a  4.32 Average watts /kg and Hoogland with a 4.01 average watts/kg), the Sprint Competition shook it up despite the hills taking the edge of most people's sprints.  Casey Roth and Ingrid Coney stole the Maxxis Sprint by posting 12.65 watts/kg and 7.96 watts/kg in their respective categories.

Lucky Number 13 will take place this weekend and will return to the series extended time trail course for the fourth time this year. The course record of 45:22.9 is held by Mike Nash.  Nash came pretty close to the record on Stage 10 and feels the time is ripe for someone to break it. Do you have it in you or know someone who does? The challenge is out by Nash himself. Additional heats are being added as needed so everyone gets a crack at a personal best or overall glory…
