Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – Pre Season Stage 5 Results

Stage 5 was a tough 25km course featuring some challenging climbs including a long, hard climb up to a sustained plateau with a rolling finish.  This was an opportunity for the big guys to come to the front and display some power on the long flat section.  Nobody predicted how significantly this course would spread out the leaders.

On the men's side Tony Zachery of Vancouver continued to extend his winning streak with a dominating ride.  He set an aggressive pace right off the start line that nobody could match and cruised to the win with a 45:03.9.  Roger Lee of Vancouver raced a strong race and took second at 47:31.1 with a wide margin.  Mike McIvor of Vancouver managed third with a 49:31.3.

On the women's side, things were much closer.  Wendy Blagdon of Ottawa and KJ Sadler of Vancouver waged a battle from opposite sides of the country.  In the end Wendy reversed last week's standings and took first place with a 52:43.6.  This week KJ had to settle for second with a 53:03.4.  Dianne Marleau of Ottawa took third place with another strong ride at 55:30.4.

Full results including times, average speeds and average power outputs are available at http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/results/Pre-Season_Stage_5_Results_Combined.pdf.

Next week marks the first stage of the series that contributes to the overall General Classification points.  Stage 1 turns back to rolling terrain and will likely favour the all-around riders.  Heats will take place on December 6th and 8th at centers in Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal.  To book your start time, call the Peak Centre for Human Performance in Vancouver at (604) 299-7959.  Ottawa riders can book their heat slots on-line at www.peakcentre.ca. The Peak Centre Winter Racing Series is designed for fun and fitness. The series is for all levels of ability, so come grab your bike and give it a try.  The first race is free for those who have never tried the series before.  For more information on times, costs and rules please see http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/race_series_2008-09.php.

Cheers,

Mike
