EV Spring Series - River Road - be careful out there

Escape Velocity Spring series starts this Sunday... with the always fun, fast and flat River Road course. Current forecast is for rain on Saturday and Monday, but sun on Sunday... So hopefully it will be a nice day.

I pre-rode this two weeks ago. The infamous pot-hole at the third corner (262 St and 84th Ave) has been filled in. Otherwise nothing has changed. The River Road (88th Ave.) portions are wide and flat and has (mostly) a paved shoulder. The final leg, 262 St, is slightly downhill with some rough pave.

Be wary of riding in the middle of the pack, especially in the C-group, last year someone went down in the middle of the group on River Road (i.e. the flattest, widest, best part of the course...)

If you are serious about contesting the sprint, watch out for the final lap, things get hectic at the final corner and there have been numerous crashes on River Road just past the turn as people jump out of the saddle to get started on the final (about 600m) sprint.

If you are not going to contest the sprint you probably want to sit back and make your way carefully and safely around the corner.

As the first race of the EV Spring Series this can be one of the most popular. So be careful if its a sunny day there can be upwards of a hundred riders in C's and correspondingly large numbers in B and A groups.
