Fwd: Peak Centre Winter Racing Series - Stage 12 Results

RWR/ Peak Winter Racing Series - Stage 12 Results

Stage 12 presented riders with one of the hardest stages to date in the Ride with Rendall/ Peak Winter Series. Not only was stage 12 riddled with climbs from the get go, it's long course status meant that pacing played a key role in a riders standing at the end of the day. Riders who went out too hard were punished with a series of tough climbs at the beginning of the stage sapping power for the later parts. Almost from the gun, Mike Nash pushed his way close to the front and held his closest rival, Casey Roth, in sight before pulling away over the second half of the 32km stage. Mike's pace took its toll as more than one contender cracked in his wake. The relentless course even got to the King himself as Nash later admitted he was forced to slow in the last 4km to prevent cramping. Mike finished with a time of 55:12.10. Casey Roth took second with a time of 58:09.2 with Ron Amos scoring third after posting a time of 58:31.4.

The women's race played out in a similar fashion with Tenille Hoogland once again putting in a solid ride to take the win. Sara Domina came in with a time of 1:06:33.8 to take second on the stage. Wendy Blagdon finished on the podium again thanks to a time of 1:09:17.5.

In addition to the overall bragging rights afforded to the stage winners, Stage 12 left the opportunity to shine with a KOM and a Sprint competition all rolled into the stage . While the KOM results where basically a carbon copy if the overall results thanks to the hilly profile ( Nash with a  4.32 Average watts /kg and Hoogland with a 4.01 average watts/kg), the Sprint Competition shook it up despite the hills taking the edge of most people's sprints.  Casey Roth and Ingrid Coney stole the Maxxis Sprint by posting 12.65 watts/kg and 7.96 watts/kg in their respective categories.

Lucky Number 13 will take place this weekend and will return to the series extended time trail course for the fourth time this year. The course record of 45:22.9 is held by Mike Nash.  Nash came pretty close to the record on Stage 10 and feels the time is ripe for someone to break it. Do you have it in you or know someone who does? The challenge is out by Nash himself. Additional heats are being added as needed so everyone gets a crack at a personal best or overall glory…

Fwd: Peak Winter Racing Series Stage 11 Results

RWR/ Peak Winter Racing Series - Stage 11

Up until now, Mike Nash has worn the crown as the rider to beat in this year's series. Mike continued his winning ways to take the win (37:34.7), but the bar has come up with the strengthened contenders. Riders in Vancouver, Ottawa and Montreal are now getting within breathing distance with several riders just off pace. To prove the point and to fuel east coast/ west coast rivalries, Vancouver's Tony Zachary (38:46.2) out gunned East coast riders Jim Tsilemos (Ottawa) and Rene Blanchard (Montreal) to finish closest to the king. (Tsilemos 38:47.0, Blanchard 38:48.1)

In the women's field, Tenille Hoogland (42:08.9) rode her way into the lead and never looked back. Closest challengers were Lyndsay Anderson of Ottawa (44:52.5) and Alison Setton of Vancouver (45:00.4).

Stage 12 will be the first of the long course stages in this year's series and runs Saturday afternoon and Monday evening in Vancouver. Not only will it challenge riders in the hills with the KOM classification, sprinters will have their day if they keep something for the end for the Maxxis Sprint competition. All eyes will be on the contenders to see if they can finally be the spoiler once again. Check start times as heat times might be adjusted for the longer course.

Fwd: Peak Centre Winter Racing Series - Stage 9 Results

Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – Stage 9 Results

After Stage 8 of the Ride with Rendall/ Peak winter series, most riders where dreaming of flatter stages and downhill run ins that have to date eluded the series. For many, these dreams quickly became nightmares on a course that, after an initial steep climb, slowly descended over long flat sections and shallow descents. Sharp focus and steady power where the key to stage 9 results and once again Mike Nash proved he had an abundance of both. Powering his way to finish first place overall in the stage with a time of 38:25.2, Mike also took the Maxxis sprint competition with a maximum power of 15.54watts/kg. Lurking close behind and keeping a low profile, Casey Roth rode to second place (39:48.9) just ahead of Vancouver's Tony Zachary (40:08.9)

First place in the Woman's field went to Tenille Hoogland who once again proved she is the one to beat in this year's series. Tenille put her head down and turned out a time of 42:11.6. Carol Deavy and Wendy Blagdon battled it out and finished second and third with times of 46:25.4 and 47:11.2 respectively. The women's sprint competition went to Ingrid Cooney who stole the show from Tenille with an impressive 7.32watts/kg.

Stage 10 will take place on Saturday afternoon and Monday evening in Vancouver and will return to the series extended time trial course for the third time this year. The current national course record of 45:22.9, set by Mike Nash of Ottawa in 2008, will be the target for the big guns as they try to ruin Mike's 7 stage winning streak on their way to a new record. Do you have it in you or know someone who does? The challenge is out by Nash himself.

The current Vancouver men's record on the course is 48:58.8 set by Tony Zachery earlier this year.  The women's record of 57:34.5 was also set earlier this year by Alison Setton.  Will these records still stand come Tuesday morning?

The extended course will be repeated once a month to help riders track their fitness and to fuel personal battles.  If you haven't tried one of these races yet now is your chance to get out to establish a PB and test your winter fitness.

Fwd: EV: SPRING SERIES

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Good morning EV and dEVo members,

Something is coming. Off in the distance, over the snowbanks, through the endless fog.  Something so epic that
Lance Armstrong refused to un-retire for it, and word has it that Obama scheduled Canada as his first destination
as president so he could watch it.

SPRING SERIES!

Maybe the subject line gave it away prematurely.  On a more serious note, please read below for information
regarding the Spring Series for 2009.  A few changes have been made to make racing more enjoyable for all
levels of cyclists including more novice racing and shifting the series back two weeks.

Changes for 2009 Spring Series:

1. Dates - this year we have decided to push the racing back two weeks.  Racing will start on Sunday March 15
and run every weekend, ending on Sunday April 12.  A detailed race schedule will be posted on the club website
over the next week (this means you, Cousineau!).

2. EV Club member race fees - EV members pay $10 per race.  Everyone else pays $25 per race.

3. Volunteering Code - It's not easy being the best cycling club in BC.  We work hard at it by giving back to the
cycling community with more days of racing than all other Lower Mainland clubs put together.  Every race that you
volunteer at, you receive a voucher for a free race.

What does volunteering entail?  Marshalling the course, delivering flyers to area residents, sign-on duty to name a
few.  This email is the first call-out for volunteers.  I am confident that my email inbox will be full by tonight.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email and I will promptly reply.

Happy riding,

Jeff Ain
dEVo Coach/Coordinator
