Velonews Interviews Christian Meier

See here for a Velonews interview with Christian Meier.

Christian also mentions training at the Velodrome in the winter:

VN:So you can get a winter workout in without going through a whole load of laundry.

CM:Actually it’s a like a pressurized bubble. There’s really no heat or insulation in there. So some days you’ll be riding the track with all your winter clothes on.

Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – Pre Season Stage 3 Results

Stage 3 brought riders back to the classic time trial course that has been a regular part of the series since its inception back in 2004.  The 23.5 km course rolls gently through the first half before climbing steadily up to the finish line.

On the men's side it was another close race in Vancouver with the top 2 fighting it out for the win.  Ted Russo of Vancouver blew out of the gate and opened a significant lead on the first half of the course.  Mike McIvor tried valiantly to close the gap through the second half of the race and launched an all-or-nothing effort on the last descent and climb.  In the end it wasn't enough and Ted held his lead took the win at 39:34.3 with a 4 second lead over Mike at 39:38.7.  Paul Comeau of Ottawa rounded out the top 3 with a 40:12.7.

On the women's side, Wendy Blagdon of Ottawa took the top spot with a 40:48.3 that was good enough for 6th place overall.  Kathy Bradley of Ottawa took second with a 45:41.3 and Dianne Marleau of Ottawa took third place with a 45:58.6.

Full results including times, average speeds and average power outputs are available at http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/results/Pre-Season%20Stage%203%20Results%20Combined.pdf.

Stage 4 of the Pre-Season Racing turns to a rolling course characterized with a series of short climbs and descents.  Heats will take place on November 22nd and 24th at centers in Ottawa and Vancouver.  To book your start time, call the Peak Centre for Human Performance in Vancouver at (604) 299-7959.  Ottawa riders can book their heat slots on-line at www.peakcentre.ca. The Peak Centre Winter Racing Series is designed for fun and fitness. The series is for all levels of ability, so come grab your bike and give it a try.  The first race is free for those who have never tried the series before.  For more information on times, costs and rules please see http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/race_series_2008-09.php.

Fwd: Peak Centre Winter Racing Series - Pre Season Stage 2 Results

Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – Pre Season Stage 2 Results

Stage 2 of the pre-season ran in heats in Ottawa and Vancouver on Saturday and Monday night.  The 25.1 km course was billed as "hilly" and riders attacked a series of 7 ascending peaks, each with its own bite.  There was little time to recover coming off the back side of each peak before it was back to climbing again.

On the men's side it was another close race in Vancouver with the top 2 distancing themselves from the rest of the field very quickly.  Tony Zachery of Vancouver set an impressive pace and led almost the whole way.  In the end it wasn't quite enough as Roger Lee of Vancouver managed to stay close enough to launch an all out attack on the last summit and open a small gap to take first place with a time of 46.48.2.  Tony finished in second place less than 10 seconds later with a 46.58.9.  Ted Russo of Vancouver rounded out the top 3 with a 50.06.0.

On the women's side, Dianne Marleau of Ottawa set a strong pace to take the top spot in with a 55:51.4.  Kathy Bradley of Ottawa took second with a 58:09.0.  Alison Setton of Vancouver took third place with a time of 59:40.2.

Full results including times, average speeds and average power outputs are available at http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/results/Pre-Season%20Stage%202%20Results%20Combined%202008.pdf.

Stage 3 of the Pre-Season Racing returns to the classic time trial course that has been a staple in the series for the past 4 years.  The current Canadian record for the men is 34:17.6 set by Arron Fillion of Ottawa last year.  The women's record of 37.14.6 was also set last year by Sue Schlatter of Ottawa.  This is your chance to challenge the records or compare your fitness level to the times you set on this course in previous years.

Stage 3 heats will take place on November 15th and 17th at centers in Ottawa and Vancouver. For more information on the series, times, costs and rules please see http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/race_series_2008-09.php.

Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – Pre Season Stage 4 Results

Stage 4 was a 25km rolling course that challenged riders to find a rhythm between a few biting climbs and gentle rolls.

On the men's side Tony Zachery of Vancouver blew apart the race right off the start line.  He set a pace that nobody could match and cruised to the win with a 40:25.0.  The race for second and third was much closer with 3 riders finishing within seconds of each other.  Roger Lee of Vancouver tailed Ted Russo through the majority of the stage but managed to open and hold a small gap in the closing climbs to take second place with a 42:12.5.  In a later heat, Mike McIvor of Vancouver just managed to squeeze out Ted Russo for third by less than 2 seconds with a 42:16.8.

On the women's side, KJ Sadler of Vancouver, in her first appearance in the series, took the win by just 3 seconds over Wendy Blagdon of Ottawa.  KJ raced to a 46:18.4 and Wendy took a very close second with a 46:21.4.   Dianne Marleau of Ottawa took third place with a 48:15.4.

Full results including times, average speeds and average power outputs are available at http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/results/Pre-Season%20Stage%204%20Results%20Combined.pdf.

Stage 5 of the Pre-Season Racing turns to a course featuring some climbing and a long plateau.  If the power riders can keep up on the way up to the plateau, they should really enjoy this stage!  Heats will take place on November 29th and December 1st at centers in Ottawa and Vancouver.  To book your start time, call the Peak Centre for Human Performance in Vancouver at (604) 299-7959.  Ottawa riders can book their heat slots on-line at www.peakcentre.ca. Fwd: Peak Centre Winter Racing Series - Pre Season stage 1 Results

Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – Pre Season stage 1 Results

Monday night saw the opening of the 2008-2009 Season of the Peak Centre Winter Racing Series with a rolling 23.5 km course that featured a number of sharp, sudden climbs and descents that kept the riders on their toes.

Even though the two top men raced separate heats, it was a close race.  In the first heat, Tony Zachery of Vancouver set an impressive pace through the first half of the course, faded a little but held strong for an impressive 40:17.8.  In the end it wasn't quite enough as Roger Lee of Vancouver raced steady through the rolling terrain and in the end managed to edge out Tony and take first place with a 39:48.4.  The gauntlet has been thrown down so this will be an entertaining rivalry to watch as the series progresses.  Bobby Howell raced a solid race and rounded out the men's top 3 with a 42:03.5.

On the women's side, Shannon Cleary of Vancouver took the top spot in her first appearance in the winter racing series with a 53:39.4.  Terrie Dlugon of Vancouver also in her first appearance took second with a 54:57.10.  Kate Hart of Ottawa spoiled Vancouver's podium run and took third place with a time of 56:51.0.
