BCMCA Cedar RR and Nanaimo Road ITT

Two BCMCA races next weekend. A new Cedar Road Race on Saturday and 33km ITT on Sunday at 9:00.

From the BCMCA Schedule:
May 24 - Sat 13: 00 Cedar 60 K circuit race (8 x 7.5 km course) Victoria Wheelers/Oak Bay Bikes, Peter McCaffery, 250 244-1597.

May 25 Sun 9:00 40 k TT, Nanaimo Lakes Rd. Sign on at White Rapids Rd. 3 k west of Island Highway just north of Nanaimo Airport. Out and back. Rolling. Victoria Wheelers/Oak Bay Bikes, Peter McCaffery, 250 244-1597.

Maps are here.

Note that there are maps from (both) ferry terminals to the start/finish as both races can be done by doing a park and ride (between 9 and 16km). It may not be possible to use Tsawwassen - Duke Point on Sunday though as there appears to be no sailing early enough as the race starts at 9:00. But remember this course is also used for the weekly Thursday night ITT.

The 6:30AM ferry from Horseshoe Bay should work. (You may want to drop an email to Peter McCaffery to let him know you are coming if you are doing this.)

BCMCA Seymour HC and Deep Cove RR this weekend

Attention BCMCA members, double points on Saturday... but only if you climb up Mount Seymour faster than everyone else :-)

And Deep Cove RR on Sunday. An easy ride from the ferry.

From BC Masters website:
Seymour Saturday

Scale Mt. Seymour Saturday, May 17 for a great test of fitness and talent. Oh, and the double points! And then jump on the ferry for Swartz Bay the next day for the 65 km road race at Deep Cove. Remember, you don't need to take your vehicle to Vancouver Island. The race is only a few kilometres from the ferry dock, an easy warm-up.
For details, check our 2008 race schedule.

Here are the maps for the weekend:

Mount Seymour HC

Here is website for Mount Seymour HC on June 14th.

We didn't get to do it last year... so this year we get to do it three times... (and Cypress too).

Here is the course as last used two years ago (Team Coastal and Barb Zimich).

I also managed to dig up a press release from a time loop, the race was on (I think) August 28, 2005.

New record set on Mount Seymour!

Christian Meirs exploded the men's field apart early in the race on Sunday, riding up the mounain road at 21 kph to finish in 35:01, with Symmetrics team mate Marsh Cooper coming up 19 seconds later in 35:20. 3rd place Sean Dawson of Trek and North Vancouver Team Coastal rider Larry Zimich were watching each other and missed Escape Velocity rider Kevin Noiles who slipped in for 4th place ahead of Larry in 38:37.

On the women's side, Team Coastal rider, Lee Darling won in 49:27 for the 12.2 km race, beating out early favorite Gill Walker, also riding for Team Coastal, who came in 48 seconds later.

Up and coming West Vancouver riders Graeme Bant took the junior event and the Roger Sumner bursary, Rachel Canning won the junior women's.

In all 86 riders came out, some for the first time. Race organizer Barb Zimich was happy with the turnout "it was a great day - I expect that we'll see Christian (Meirs) on the next Olympic team and I was happy to see the kids racing, the future Olympians!"

WarpSpeed ITT Results

Official WarpSpeed ITT results posted here.

Unofficial combined results for 2006-2007-2008 here.

Paste this into any HTML page to embed your spreadsheet on that page.

On average for times where about 30-40 seconds faster this year (little or no wind.)

Mike Rothengatter and Micheal Simpson came within 20 seconds of John Tolkamps best time. Unfortunately John was not out to defend his time this year, so we won't know what he would have done in the near perfect TT conditions.

Maydays! is the first big track race of the Pacific Northwest track calendar and is shaping up to be a serious battle! Field caps are in place, so local riders need to register ASAP or miss out!
