Ride with Rendall - Winter Racing Series - Stage 15 Results
RWR/Peak Winter Series – Stage 15 Results Stage 15 of the Ride with Rendall/Peak Winter Series threw more than one challenge at the riders. Faced with a hilly 32.4km course, riders had to decide if they were going to pay now or pay later. For many, the choice was to either go out hard on the successive eight percent grades that awaited the challengers early on and hope to hang on or conserve early and save it for the monster eight near the end. On what is classified as a long course in the series, a trail of cracked riders riddled the course in the later part of the stage. Not to be deterred, Marc Boudreau stayed focused and threw down the gauntlet and became the only rider to break the hour with a time of 59:07.1. Second place on the stage went to Jim Tsilemos and first year Espoir rider Thomas Devisscher took third (1:01:13.8 and 1:02:31.5 respectively). Thanks to his mental focus, Boudreau also took first in the Pedal KOM competition by averaging an impressive 4.42 watts/kg over the course. Patrick Seguin narrowly took second (4.14 avg. watts/kg) and BC rider Ted Russo took third (4.13 avg. watts/kg ) The women's field saw some new faces on the podium. Monica Kvas took the stage with a time of 1:20:21.1. Less than 7 seconds behind, Nicola Johnson finished in second with a time of 1:20:26.9. Following closely behind the battle for first was Melanie Provenchier. Her time of 1:23:26.7 rounded out the podium. Top spots where shuffled amongst the stage winners in the Pedal QOM competition. Johnson took the top spot (2.92 avg. watts/kg) over Kvas (2.91 avg. watts/kg), with Provenchier again taking third (2.74 avg. watts/kg). Check out more in-depth results at www.ridewithrendall.com or http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/race_series_2007-08.php. Stage 16 is racked up to be another battle of the top guns as the series hits another of its long courses. Riders will be challenged by a rolling course that constantly switches up tempo as the gradients change. The stage will also be part of the MAXXIS Sprinter competition, so watch for some high maximum wattages being recorded as riders chase stage glory and sprint bragging honors. With only a few more stages to go, RWR would once again like to take the time to thank all of the riders and the series' sponsors, Easton, Pedal, Maxxis, and the Peak Center. BC Masters News
News in from BC Masters:
Season starter - Cowichan Lake---> Read full article here!
A little leg loosener to ease you into the 2008 racing season is this traditional 70 km road race. Known for its scenic climb from the Cowichan River Valley, the race starts and finishes in Cowichan Lake Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. Sign on is at the Scout Hall at South Shore Rd & Lakeview Rd. Because this race is put on by the BC Masters (not a club), we need and welcome help. If you're not racing and are available to help, please call Dave Steen at 250-246-3530.
Monitor the draft 2008 race schedule. Changes are being made frequently. For example, the 80 km time trial in the Duncan area at the end of August has a new date and we've just added two races in the area south of Nanaimo -- a 60 km circuit race on May 25 and a 40 km time trial May 26. Organizer Peter McCaffery has forged an excellent program for these two new events for what promises to be a great weekend of racing.
Many Masters riders enjoy competing in the BC Seniors Games. They will be held September 10 to 13 in Prince George. For more, check out bcseniorsgames.org

EV Spring Series - upgrade points
This is from Cycling BC's rules:
6. What races can I enter to earn upgrade points?
Any race registered on Cycling BC’s provincial road calendar that offers all or some of the standard ability categories offers upgrade points for those categories, according to the scale (5 places deep): 8, 6, 4, 3, 2. This includes BC Cup Races.
Cycling BC does not track upgrade points for club, regional, or sport-class races (example: the EV spring series, weeknight races). However, riders who win their category at such a race may claim 1 upgrade point, provided that:
• It can be verified that the race was supervised by Commissaires
• The win occurred in a category of equal or greater difficulty than the rider’s current ability category
• The win can be verified by an independent source (i.e. a web site)
• At least 20 riders were present in the category
It is the rider’s responsibility to collect the necessary supporting information for presentation to Cycling BC. Usually, the name of the Commissaire present and a reference to the web site containing the results is sufficient.
So it would appear that you can get some upgrade points, if you win.
