Peak Centre Winter Racing Series –Stage 1 Results
With the pre-season racing behind us, Stage 1 marked the official return of the Peak Centre Winter Racing Series – back for its 5th season. The stage was a 23.7km rolling course with a few challenging climbs that finished with a tough uphill finish. It was the kind of course that favored the all-around rider and it was a hell of a tough way to open the series!
On the men's side, Warren MacDonald (EMD/Serono; 42:26.2) wasted little time in establishing himself as a rider to beat. While some riders were using the stage to as the start of their winter training, others showed up to race. The Peak Centre's Casey Roth had a strong ride to finish second with a time of 45:31.4. Third place went to Vancouver's Tony Zachery who followed in closely with a time of 47:09.0.
In the women's Field, Tenille Hoogland (47:29.5) picked up were she left off last year, posting a time good enough for fifth overall while taking the women's category win. Second place went to Ottawa's rider Dianne Marleau (RWR) with Vancouver's Alison Setton finishing just one second behind Dianne in third.
Full results including times, average speeds and average power outputs are available at http://www.peakcentrevancouver.ca/results/Stage%201%20Results%20Combined2008.pdf.
Next week marks the first running of the Extended Time Trial Course that is repeated 5 times through the series. The Extended Time Trial Course made its first appearance last year so that riders could compare their results on the same course multiple times during the season. The current national record on the course is 45:22.9 held by Mike Nash of Ottawa. The current Vancouver record on the course is 50:12.8 held by Ted Russo.
Heats will take place on December 13th and 15th at centers in Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal. To book your start time, call the Peak Centre for Human Performance in Vancouver at (604) 299-7959. Ottawa riders can book their heat slots on-line at www.peakcentre.ca. The Peak Centre Winter Racing Series is designed for fun and fitness. The series is for all levels of ability, so grab your bike and give it a try. The first race is free for those who have never tried the series before.
