Fwd: Peak Centre Winter Racing Series - Stage 13 Results

RWR/ Peak Winter Racing Series - Stage 13 Results

LUCKY 13 – Extended Time Trial Course

The extended course is the one course in the 18 race series that gets repeated once a month to help riders track their fitness and to fuel personal battles.

Number 13 lived up to its curse in the men's field, where Mike Nash's 2008 time of 45:22.9 over the 30.09km remains the elusive target for everyone, including Nash himself. The magnitude of that ride is highlighted every time the riders hit the course in an attempt to break the record, only to fall short. Seduced by the numbers, many riders have thrown caution to the wind and have gambled with a big wattage early in the stage. But, all too often, the house wins and they leave short-handed. While Nash put in a strong ride to win the stage, his time of 46:10.2 was off his regular mark and the record. Behind him, Ryan Atkins put in a steady ride of 47:43.0, ahead of Greg Zuliani's 48:12.6.

While the men were folding, Lady Luck was present for the women's race as riders attempted to break the course record of 50:44.3 set by Sue Schlatter last year. GC leader, Tenille Hoogland, riding in one of the earlier heats, put in a great ride to set a new PB and new course record of 50.12.5. Unfortunately for Hoogland, her record was short lived when Schlatter powered her way over the finish line to clock a better time of 49:45.1. Third place on the stage went to Sara Domina (54:58.4) thanks to a strong finish.

Next up is stage 14 this weekend, where riders will face an uphill course as part of the series KOM competition. The KOM competition factors in each rider's average power to weight to see who the climbers are in the field. All eyes will be on Schaltter to see how far up the overall leader board she can climb.
